Aggies in the Basin

In 1898, Utah State University formed its first Alumni Association. The mission of the Alumni Association is to “contribute to the success of Utah State University by providing opportunities for meaningful, lifelong involvement for its alumni, students, and friends.”

The university has more than 220,000 alums across the United States and in 100 countries. The current statewide alumni chapters include Aggies in Box Elder, Davis, and Salt Lake. Utah State University Uintah Basin is looking forward to adding Aggies in the Basin to the list of chapters.

The mission of Utah State University is “to be one of the nation’s premier student-centered, land-grant and space-grant universities by fostering the principle that academics come first, cultivating diversity of thought and culture, and serving the public through learning, discovery, and engagement.”

Having a local alumni chapter will facilitate meeting our mission by serving our community through engagement and cultivating diversity of thought and culture. In addition, a local alumni chapter provides an avenue to give back to the university and our community.

Furthermore, a local chapter will provide alums an avenue to stay connected to Utah State University, network with alum and faculty, and foster a community of belonging.

Alum chapters can connect people to Utah State traditions by hosting university events and activities and supporting current and future students. Past graduates have a wealth of knowledge to share and contacts with local businesses and our community.

A local alumni chapter will allow networking opportunities for current and recent graduating students. Alums are often great supporters and ambassadors for the university. They provide an example of the value of education to an individual’s financial and overall well-being.

USU Uintah Basin is hosting a social and open house as a first step towards establishing Aggies in the Basin. This event will be held on March 22, from 5 to 7 p.m. at USU Uintah Basin’s Vernal campus (320 North Aggie Blvd).

This event is open to any Utah State University alum. Alums are all former students of the university who have attended or graduated.

The open house is designed so individuals can come and spend as much or as little time as they choose. In addition, they can meet and network with other alums, enjoy light refreshments, and pick up a swag item. We will also have a link to a survey (https://usu.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_4GUSdvdRYULMGLY) that alums may complete becoming connected to future events and information.

We aim to have our Alumni Chapter Advisory Committee selected and active by Fall 2023. One of the advisory committee’s first objectives will be to plan a fall alumni event for our Roosevelt campus.

We look forward to having this vital resource for students past and present and the community we serve.
