Naples City chooses new council member

Ross Morton was elected as the new Naples City Council member Jan. 13. Morton will take the seat of Dennis Long, who served as a city council member for 17 years. Long recently passed away and Naples City expressed its gratitude for Long’s years of dedicated service to the council and the city.

Naples opened its inbox to members of the community interested in filling the council seat. Ap plicants were required to submit a letter of interest to the city recorder and to attend the city council meeting Jan. 13.

During the meeting, sitting council members interviewed each applicant. The council members then narrowed the candidates down to two and then fi nally chose their new city council member.

Morton will be sworn in at the next Naples City Council meeting Jan. 25.
