Mailbox thefts in Duchesne County

The Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office issued a suspicious activity alert for the North Crescent and Cove neighborhoods Jan. 23.
According to a news release, DCSO investigators are working a couple cases of suspicious activity in those areas where mailboxes have been broken into.
Investigators are seeking assistance from anyone in the public who has seen or heard of criminal mischief in these areas. Individuals with security cameras are asked to review their footage covering the past couple nights for anything that is unusual.
Residents in these areas should be vigilant around their neighborhoods. With the increasing amount of vandalism, thefts and burglary complaints coming in, keep an eye out for any suspicious activity and report it as soon as possible.
DCSO offered tips to avoid mail theft:

• Promptly pick up mail.

Try not to leave letters and packages in your mailbox or at your door for any length of time.

• Switch to paperless billing if possible.
• Put a hold on your mail when you are out of town.
• Deposit mail in mailbox close to pick up time.
• Inquire about overdue mail.
