Vernal’s Tony Sheffer had a once-in-a-lifetime experience when he flew in a medical helicopter where he stepped out to a loud applause at Coach Belcher Stadium.He started the torch run for the Special Olympics track and field games May 16.Sheffer found out the day before he was selected for the honor.“He is really excited,” his mom, Joan Sheffer said.
The Union girls finished fourth at the Class 3A state golf tournament and were led by Brooklyn Brown.

Union coach Levi Wise predicated his team would be in a four-team race for the Class 3A boys track and field team title.The Cougars finished in a respectful fourth-place finish in the state meet at BYU May 19.Union scored 74 points in the fierce two-day competition.“They ran awesome at the state meet,” Wise said.
Altamont’s Ashton Arnold knew he didn’t have a lot of chances left in his high school career to win an individual state track and field title.That changed in a big way during the Class 1A state meet at BYU May 17-18.The senior won the 1,600, 800 and was part of Altamont’s winning 4x400-meter relay.He finished a close second in the 3,200 race.“I have always been pretty good at cross country but I have never been able to win state in track,” Arnold said.
Altamont senior Ashton Arnold warmed up for his final Class 1A state track and field meet of his career, winning three individual tiles during the Region 22 competition in Wendover.
Duchesne finished one win away from making the Class 2A state baseball title game at Utah Valley University in Orem.
Altamont and Duchesne were hoping to have a long stay in the Class 2A state softball tournament this past weekend in Spanish Fork with its high seeds.
