Vernal resident Val Tomoff has accomplished a remarkable feat that few manage to achieve: celebrating her 100th birthday.
Tomoff experienced firsthand many of the highs and lows of the past century, from having a turbulent childhood to building a life full of love for herself. In this time she has witnessed major industrial changes, the evolution of modern travel, and the progress from commonplace indoor plumbing all the way to the average touchscreen phone.
In her 100 years of life, Tomoff has managed to leave an indelible mark on the hearts of everyone she has met, a fact that is further highlighted by the large and loving turnout at her birthday party.
Love certainly filled the air as family, friends, and those who had become like family excitedly entered the celebration room. While many hugs and kind words were exchanged, it became clear that Val Tomoff is not only an extremely loved and loving person, but also a deeply grateful person.
Tomoff made sure to express gratitude for all of the big and small efforts made to make her special day memorable, offering kind words and flashing her one-of-a-kind, genuine smile.
“My new wish is to make it to 103,” said Tomoff as she blew out her celebratory candles.
Those who know Val feel confident that she can make it past that goal, all the way to 105, citing her good health and sharp mind as major factors in her liveliness.
“Val has the special ability to befriend anyone,” shared close friend Margo Baker. “She is so well spoken and so genuine that you can’t help but feel drawn to her company.”
Her granddaughter, Marnie Linebaugh, who traveled all the way from California, shared a similar sentiment.
“I reconnected with my grandmother later in life, and despite some initial nervousness about our meeting, I was happy to see that we bonded seamlessly, as if no time had passed and we had always known each other,” said Linebaugh. “To know her is to love her. I think there was a part of me that always needed her, and now I will treasure all of the time I am able to spend with her.”
Individuals like Val Tomoff, who possess a heart full of love, unwavering tenacity, deep wisdom, and a wealth of life experience, are few and far between in this world. Happy birthday, Val, and congratulations on a long and beautiful life and legacy.
