October 3, 1984 to February 25, 2023

Loving mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend to all, Jodie Lynn Newberry Varney, died Feb. 25, 2023, at Utah Valley Medical Center.
Jodie was born Oct. 3, 1984, in Roosevelt, Utah. She was the daughter of Dean Newberry, Pat O’Driscoll, and bonus dad Jay O’Driscoll. She was the baby sister of Dannette Van, Michelle Singer, Stacey Newberry, Tim (Sarah) Singer, and Patrick (Joyce) Newberry.
She married Matthew Varney Dec. 27, 2008. They had three children together, Matthew, Riddick, and Joslynn. She was loved by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many friends.
She was preceded in death and welcomed with open arms by her father (Dean), nephew (Daryl), niece (Jessica), and mother-in-law (Kim), all of whom she missed dearly.
Jodie loved being a mother more than anything. She adored her kids, as they were the love of her life and her whole world. To know Jodie was to love her. She had such a sweet shy smile. Her love for people and animals was beyond measure. She was kind, supportive, encouraging, and loved fiercely. She would do anything for anybody, even if it inconvenienced her at times. She had an infectious laugh and loved to capture many photos of her loved ones.
Jodie fought a long, courageous battle against mental illness and addiction. She would want you to know of her struggles if it could help save you or someone else.
“Be kind; Everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.” Plato
In honor of Jodie, do something kind today and always. Make someone smile, call the person you’ve been meaning to call, and be encouraging always. That is what she would want.
The family would like to express their gratitude for the ambulance crew, responding officers, staff at Uintah Basin Medical Center, staff at Utah Valley Hospital, and Hullinger Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating towards funeral expenses. Any remaining funds will go towards her beloved children’s future. Donations can be made at the Roosevelt Mountain America Branch under “Jodie Newberry Varney Memorial.”
