Roper Shay Bagley, age 14, of Altamont, returned to his loving Heavenly Father on April 26, 2023.
He was born on Feb. 18, 2009, in Roosevelt, to Gale Shay Bagley and Lizzie Lee Fisher Walters.
Roper was our little Michelin Man; he weighed nearly 30 pounds at 10 months old. He had his mother’s heart of gold, was his sister’s tormentor, his brother’s best friend and grandpa’s number one hand. There was always a smile on his face and a twinkle in his blue eyes. Roper’s laugh was contagious, and he told very poor jokes, but man would you laugh at them.
No matter the task big or small, Roper never complained, he got the job done; always smiling and happy to be there. He enjoyed people, animals, the outdoors, ranching, mechanics and operating large equipment. If there was something that needed fixing, he wasn’t afraid to tear it apart and figure it out. He was excited for summer and to start another hay season. He had recently designed his own brand and was excited to order his tags. Roper attended Altamont High School where he was a member of the Chess Club and Future Farmers of America and he also participated in basketball, wrestling and baseball.
Roper’s sisters would say that a day didn’t go by without Roper knowing that he was loved. Roper was the most caring boy; he helped anyone who needed him. He was always giving and gave even in death by being an organ donor. His legacy lives on in those that he helped. #livelikeroper.
Roper was always happy and full of life. He is survived by his parents, Gale Shay Bagley and Lizzie Lee (Josh) Walters; siblings, Kylee Kim Bagley, Kaydence McKay Bagley, Laynie Lee Bagley, Angel Alcantar and Leona Lynn Walters; grandparents, Eric Curtis and Kim Fisher, Altamont; Gale Jay Bagley, Altamont; Amy Veva Bagley, Tabiona; great-grandparents, Afton Veva Giles, Tabiona; Gary Nyle and Nonalee Goodrich, Bluebell; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Ronnie Frank Giles; Edwin Curtis “Ted” and Naomi Ruth Fisher; and Rolland McKay and Elsie Laverda Bagley.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at 11 a.m. at the Altamont Chapel, 15709 4000 N. Viewings will be at the church on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m.
